Free Comic Book Day is an annual event that will hit comic book specialty shops on May 3rd this year. This is the 13th anniversary of National Free Comic Book Day. And this event is always held on the first Saturday in May. It provides the best opportunity to all comic book lovers to enjoy the many worlds of wonder available at local comic book shops.

Free Comic Book Day allows everyone to enjoy their favorite comics ranging from super-heroes to slice of life to action/adventure and beyond. Each year, on this day, participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops.

This year on May 3rd, more than 4.6 million comic books will be given away free of cost. More than 2,000 comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world will participate in this year's annual Free Comic Book Day to marks its thirteenth anniversary. Comic book specialty retailers have been preparing their shops for the 16th Free Comic Book Day event for months.

Many comic book shops will also engage in special events during the day. These special events include author signings, appearances of favorite super-heroes or co-players and great deals on exclusive and sale items. All the comic book retailers hope to have a record-breaking attendance.

“Free Comic Book Day is a perfect occasion for fans to discover new types of comic books,” said FCBD spokesperson Jason Blanchard, “especially if they’re new to the wide variety of titles that are being published today. On May 3rd, we encourage new and current readers to use Free Comic Book Day as an opportunity to learn about the great comic books and pop-culture merchandise to be found at their local comic book shop. Hopefully, they’ll walk away with free comics they can't wait to read, and then keep coming back to their local shop for more!”
