Activision Set to Announce New Call of Duty Game

Activision is laying out the ground works for its next Call of Duty game announcement by adding some hype a few days prior to showing fans a more in depth look.

Activision sold over $1 billion dollars in retail copies on the first day of the highly anticipated 'Ghosts' release from last November.  The reviews came pouring in over the next week -- and the franchise that had been a solid winner for years was taking blows on every front in the gaming community.  Gamers complained about everything from the lack of originality to an unstable PC version that had low frame rates with constant crashes.  Review writers weren't far behind to point out the unoriginality of the franchise since Modern Warfare.

Earlier this year Activision responded by announcing the three Development companies for the CoD franchise will each have 3-year rotations in creating the game.  This should give them plenty of time to test out bugs while implementing true 'Modern' FPS gaming.

Sledgehammer is the company that is slated to release the next CoD game later this year.  Gameinformer was given an exclusive inside sneak peek at the game prior to its May 5th press release.  They added to their web site with a teaser wallpaper of a soldier wearing full body combat gear -- and enough ammunition to start a small war.

The Call of Duty web site also has a posted link of a blurry image that is set to go live.  The page has a countdown timer on the top -- and a posting of New Era to generate some hype prior to the official announcement.

Gameinformer is set to release a 12 page in depth report on the next CoD game in the next few days.  Subscribers can get three day early access to the story before anyone else is able to read it.

Activision is hoping the new format for the CoD franchise will boost the series back to where it was in 2007.  The new format to be released later this month should give gamers a feel for the direction that they are moving -- whether it be down the same old path or onto a new gaming field.

Here's a look at the photo that Game informer released earlier this week for the new CoD game.
