Sandra Oh, who plays the role of Dr. Cristina Yang is to leave the cast of Grey’s Anatomy.
Sandra Oh was dynamic, enthusiastic and full of energy. At least that was how she appeared on the acclaimed television series Grey’s Anatomy. Sandra Oh played the role of Dr. Cristina Yang, a hardboiled, no-nonsense, tough-as-nails physician that could see right through you.

Yet today it is a sad day for the cast members of Grey’s Anatomy. Sandra Oh has just wrapped up her last shooting for the show and is heading out for fresh virgin territory.
She is to leave the show and one of the earlier protagonists is to return in her place. It’s been over ten seasons since Sandra entered the repertoire of the show. She portrayed a sharpshooting and straightforward female doctor.
The character of Dr. Cristina Yang will be very dearly missed by the viewers. The writer of the show almost wrote the ending of Grey’s Anatomy, but then decided to continue on the demand of the public.
Sandra Oh meanwhile has spoken of how she wants a jubilant ending to her character Cristina’s stint on Grey’s Anatomy. "I want it to be celebratory and that we all get to a place where we're happy to see her go. Every so often a crewmember will look at me in a certain way or hug me in a certain way and I know what it's about. We don't say anything but I know what it is. It will be hard to say goodbye," she told THR during a set visit for the 200th episode.
And when she was asked about her favorite Cristina memory, Oh said, "I thought the season-six finale with the shooter was really good. It was really hard shooting it but Michael O'Neill [as the shooter] was amazing. We really hit it out of the park with those two gripping episodes."
She has said so much though that it will be a tearful goodbye as she waves her last farewells to the entire cast. Costar Ellen Pompeo said that Sandra Oh partook in some kickass acting. Sandra is the recipient of an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
She is a versatile and highly perceptive actress who has her wits about her. The flawless performances she has given so far on the show belie the fact that she has a solid personality that is grounded in reality.
Grey’s Anatomy creator and showrunner, Shonda Rhimes, said, "One of my favorite moments was when she first came in to audition. She walked in the door for the role of Bailey and killed it. She had a totally different interpretation of the character and was hilarious. I remember the two of us looking at one another and thinking, 'Maybe she's Cristina.'
That completely changed my conception of Cristina. The character of Cristina as we know her was really born when Sandra Oh walked into the room. I know exactly what the ending will be. I know what I wish for the character and what feels right in terms of her leaving our world and I tried to find something that made sense to me."
Meanwhile, Isaiah Washington is going to be back on set as Dr. Preston Burke. Where one person is leaving another one is entering the situation. Parting is such sweet sorrow. But that is the way things are according to the script on Grey’s Anatomy.
