TMZ reported Friday that 43 year old Lamar Sally filed for legal separation and custody of baby on May 2nd after three years of marriage. Sherri Shepherd and Lamar Sally got married at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago in August 2011.
The news of Sherri Shepherd's divorce shocks many."She is such a pro. She came to work all week and nobody knew that anything was going on," a source who knows Shepherd tells PEOPLE. "Nobody knew that she was even expecting with the surrogate."
It shows that Sherri is really a strong woman. The source says that Shepherd, 47, "keeps her private life very private, and she talked about wanting to have a baby with a surrogate on the show but she generally only shares news when she has news to share."
"She keeps it so together and professional. People thought she was fine," adds the source. And the insider also said that Sally "always seemed to be there to support her. It seemed like they had a happy, supportive relationship. This is a shock."
Mark Vincent Kaplan will represent Lamar in court. He is the same lawyer who is famous for representing Kevin Federline during his divorce from Britney Spears.
Sally filed to seek the full custody of his soon to arrive baby boy that will be named Lamar Sally Jr. This is the second marriage of 47 years old Sherri. She has no kid from Sally. However, Sherri has a son named Jeffrey from her previous husband, Jeff Tarpley.
After eight years of marriage, Shepherd divorced her first husband in 2009. The reason for that divorce was Shepherd's ex-husband's affair with someone else.
The reason behind Shepherd's second divorce from Sally is not revealed in TMZ report. However, some previous reports already claimed that the couple's marriage was in trouble and that they were going to separate. And another recent report from RadarOnline claims that actually Shepherd was leaving her husband since he had no job.
“He is giving her the blues,” a source close to the situation told Radar about Shepherd’s relationship with Sally. “Their whole relationship was built on a fraud and it’s finally over. She’s thrown him out of the house and he’s tried to speak to her but nothing is happening.”
At the time of marriage, Lamar told Sherri that he was a well-known writer in Hollywood. But that was not true. “Lamar told Sherri that he was a big Hollywood player, with scripts being sold. But she’s tired of being married to a guy that doesn’t have a job.”
However, Lamar proved to be a good father for Sherri's son Jeffrey. But it is not enough for Sherri. “Lamar was a father figure to Jeffrey, and he really took care of the boy. He really loves him and was great with him,” source added. But “Sherri doesn’t need or want a babysitter for her son, she wants an equal partner.”
ThankU Lord for blessing me w the greatest gift ever -my son Jeffrey. Don’t know how You thought I’d be good at this but I love being a mom!— Sherri Shepherd (@SherriEShepherd) May 11, 2014
And Lamar is also requesting Shepherd to grant him the "reasonable" visitation rights to see Jeffrey and that their prenup be invalidated on grounds of fraud.
