His name is Musa Dayeb and he has earned the moniker “miracle baby” due to the amazing fact that he survived such a terrible fall. Despite his multiple injuries which include two fractured arms, broken ribs and a concussion, he is in stable condition and currently in a hospital safe and sound.
Musa is inhaling and exhaling via a ventilator. Since the spot where he fell was a compost heap, the boy survived. And although he is critically wounded, he is expected to live to see the day when he will be an active little toddler.
According to medical experts, if any adult were to fall from a similar height he or she would lose his or her life for sure. "If you and I fell that far, we would be dead," Tina Slusher said from the paediatric intensive care unit at Hennepin County Medical Center.
"He's a baby and ... they tend to be more flexible and pliable than you and I would be. Having said that, it's a real gift from God that he made it because this is a huge fall."
It was truly a miracle that such a small wonder had weathered the collapsing conditions of freefall through such a long distance. Since Musa was just a baby, his bones and body were in a ductile stage which means they were not as rigid as an adult’s would be.
This lucky child has been literally given a new life thanks to his great escape from imminent death. His parents are Somali Americans. The community members couldn’t believe their ears when they heard that he was still alive after the ordeal.
Meanwhile, the parents are in a state of shock and blame themselves for the mishap. The mother was doing chores when the father went to fetch something from another room. That was when their young daughter yelled that he had fallen through a gap in the railing of the balcony.
"I don't think my brother and his wife will recover from this. They really torture themselves," miracle baby's uncle Abdirahim Ahmed said.
