Business Week has a lengthy report about the controversy. Led Zeppelin is getting accused by the trust that manages royalties for late guitarist and writer Randy California. Back in the day Randy California played for the band Spirit. Their song Taurus has a similar guitar line like Stairway to Heaven. This is not new news as Randy California already said publicly that Stairway to Heaven is a ripoff.
Now though their is an active process to get Randy California credit for Stairway to Heaven and of course a share of the huge profits that song made. Business Week estimates that Stairway to Heaven made at least $562m over the decades.
Watch below a clip from the "Heard it on the X radio show" that already tackled this plagiarism case back in 2010. At 1:44 they play the intro from Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and then the similar sequence from the Spirit track Taurus. What do you think?
