Yaya Touré has expressed regret over what he perceives to be a lack of respect shown to him by the management and administration of Manchester City.
However, there are voices of criticism regarding his stance. Some say that he wants a job for a lifetime in the group. This in fact is similar to Zidane’s tenure in Real Madrid.
Zidane had ended his career and become a coach and consultant instead. It was a permanent position he had inherited. And the very fact that now he was there forever gave out positive vibes.
Yaya Touré is to leave the club after a series of shocks he received at the hands of his seniors. He claims he was deliberately sidelined and not paid any heed when the team went to the UAE recently.
Dimitri Seluk told BBC Sport that Toure was "very upset" and could leave. Toure initially played down the row on Twitter, saying: "Don't take words that do not come from my mouth seriously." But Toure's agent Dimitri Seluk said, “If they don't respect him then, easy, Yaya will leave.”
After that Toure tweetd: "Everything Dimitri said is true. He speaks for me. I will explain after the World Cup." But this tweet was removed later on.
"People think we did this because we want to change the contract, to make more money," Seluk told BBC Sport. "The contract is OK. For us, the most important is attention from the club to whom Yaya gives a lot."
However, Manchester City still has a three year contract with Yaya’s signature on it. They are not about to lose a good player due to a stupid misunderstanding. But Toure is adamant that he will be playing for someone else soon.
The fact that respect comes before any financial rewards is a dictum that is all too common in everyday affairs. When an adult, who unlike the child has acquired the principles of psychology, is insulted or slighted even slightly, he reacts with all his being at the injustice.
Man does not live by bread alone after all. Rather vanity plays a role too in his makeup. There is no lack of jobs that pay well but make one’s self-esteem go from a zillion to zero.
That is why struggle is always combined with a sensibility for one’s self-respect. This can be seen in the case of Yaya Toure who has finally put his foot down. He wants double or nothing.
