Lupita Nyong’o won the first ever lifestyle non-music personality of the year award. Other nominations for this award include Nigeria's award-winning novelist Chimamanda Adichie, South Africa's top stand up comedian Trevor Noah, Ivory Coast footballer Yaya Toure and famous Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.

Best group pf the year award won by South Africa's duo Mafikizolo and their track "khona" named the song of the year. Afro-pop artist and producer Davido of Nigeria won the favorite artist of the year award and best male artist award. Best hip hop group award goes to Sarkordie of Ghana.

The Pan-African spirit is celebrated with gaiety and camaraderie at this event. Among the series of activities that were undertaken included the mention of Nelson Mandela as a symbol of freedom and peace. Also a prayer for the rehabilitation of the 200 Nigerian girls captured and kidnapped by Boko Haram took place.

Meanwhile, Lupita is on to other projects which await her approval. She is to appear in a film titled Americanah. This is based upon a famous novel. Even Brad Pitt’s production house is involved in the project.

The picture will portray two Nigerian lovers whose lives overlap several continents and tumultuous events. The ordeals faced by immigrants and the winding path that leads one back to one’s provenance are explored in the novel and will be depicted realistically on the big screen.

The novel was counted among the 10 best books of 2014. And this novel also won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction. Lupita has expressed her delight in playing the role of the female lead character in Americanah. To bring the novel’s characters to life in moving talkie form is an honor for Lupita.

“It is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie's brilliant book to the screen. Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze's stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart,” said Nyong'o.

Lupita Nyong’o has had some pretty thorough practice in the art of acting at the Yale School of Drama. She is a perfect professional and she knows it. She won an Oscar for her debut role in “12 Years a Slave.”

Lupita is currently working in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII”. She will also voice one of the characters of the Jon Favreau's movie ”The Jungle Book.”

Lupita Nyong'o is not only an actress but also a filmmaker. She is the creator, director, editor and producer of the award-winning documentary film “In My Genes.” This feature-length documentary shows the treatment of Kenya's albino population.
