The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs is now reporting that they have arrested two men who are being said to have digitally held devices for ransom recently.
When the two men, who were aged 17 and 23, were arrested, they had computer equipment SIM cards, hacking literature, and phones. They both confessed to the charges being brought against them and are awaiting sentencing on the crimes that they are being convicted of.
It remains to be seen whether or not they played a role in the Australian breach that led to a massive security breach in iOS. The Ministry in Russia says that it isn’t clear whether or not they had a role, however, they are going to continue looking into it.
Similar to the Australian hack, users found that their devices were locked remotely and were demanded to pay a ransom in order to have their devices unlocked. It isn’t known how many people were affected in total.
This is all precisely why Apple is going to be making a massive security overhaul into the next version of iOS, working hard to make the iPhone 6 the most secure device available on the market at the moment. Stay tuned to see how these men are sentenced and how secure the next version of Apple’s software truly is.
