World Cup Opening Match: Everything about Brazil vs. Croatia

Brazil is all set to lock horns with Croatia in the football stadium of Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo. Millions will be static in front of the boob tube as the match ensues between the two titans.

The competing teams are lucky in that they are to be the ones to inaugurate the opening of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It is a grand and huge occasion as the world’s players come face to face with each other in the field with a pneumatic ball and two goals on either side.

This is a game of worth and wits. Both physical stamina and psychological sharpness are needed in equal amounts. While Brazil is quite a big daddy in the arena, Croatia is not to be defeated easily. In the heat of attack it will be a tough face-off between the two.

The Brazilians have the home turf advantage though. They are a very strong and resilient team that does not go down without a fight. Yet Croatia has some aces up its sleeves too.

According to Sportskeeda , "Brazil who are one of the tournament favourites will be looking forward to a comfortable win in front of their home crowd but Croatia are no pushovers. The Croatians have some big names in their ranks and the team is more than capable of causing a huge upset.

Brazil is tough team to beat on their home turf and it was quite evident after their crushing victory over defending European and World champions Spain in the final of the Confederations Cup last year."

One of Brazil’s major player’s was wounded and so things are not off to a good start for the behemoth. Neymar got injured while playing a friendly match against Serbia. The participation (or non-participation) of the star player will determine the fate of the Brazilian team.

Meanwhile, other members of the team may take over and provide the much-needed buffering agents that are required to fill the hollow left by the star player’s injury.

Brazil is expected to go with similar team, the one that played in the Confederations Cup. Brazil will go with Julio Cesar, Dani Alves, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Marcelo, Luis Gustavo, Paulinho, Oscar, Hulk, Fred and Neymar (if available) in the ground.

And while the Croatians are not exactly at the top of their game, they are a bunch of wily survivors. They also have some very strong and sensible players among their ranks.

Darijo Srna will be leading them and he may lead them to victory with a little elbow grease. But Croatia would go without Mario Mandzukic. He got a red card in the play-off match against Iceland and he is suspended for the game.

11 players of Croatia would include Pletikosa; Srna, Lovren, Corluka, Pranjic, Vukojevic, Modric; Perisic, Rakitic, Kovacic and Olic. The match referee is Yuichi Nishimura from Japan.

According to Telegraph , "The Croats are not a patch on the team that boasted the likes of Davor Suker and Robert Prosinecki, but hosts do not always start well.

It is important Brazil score first and, possibly, early. Great attention will be focused on Neymar, the young man many compatriots believe cpould be the star of the World Cup."

Since Brazil’s star player’s future is doubtful, Croatia may just have gained the necessary advantage to succeed. But it is still too early to state the obvious. Only time will tell the outcome of the match.

France v Nigeria: Round of 16 - 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil
Arsenal lost defensive stalwart Bacary Sagna to Manchester City this summer, opening up a gargantuan hole at right-back coming into the 2014-15 season. The Frenchman had been so consistently excellent across this past campaign that it wasn't a shock to see other clubs express an interest in his expiring contract, so Arsene Wenger was forced into the market to find a replacement, and he did so in Mathieu Debuchy. Having witnessed Didier Deschamps p ...
