Veteran anchor Katie Couric married John Molner in the Hamptons in a small wedding on June 21.
Katie Couric married fiancé John Molner on Saturday, June 21 in East Hampton, New York.
People's K.C. Blum and Charlotte Triggs describe the small, intimate ceremony as a family affair. Molner and Couric wanted their children from previous marriages to be a special part. Molner's children Allie and Henry read along with Couric's daughters Ellie and Carrie. Carrie also sang for the couple.
"Katie Couric Marries John Molner" reports the bride "wore an ivory beaded and embroidered Chantilly lace halter gown by Carmen Marc Valvo" at the last moment. With only 50 guests, the ceremony and celebration remained limited. No paparazzi or photojournalists for the couple's marriage. "This is not my first rodeo so I didn't want to go too crazy and neither did John."
Katie Couric shared a snap shot of the couple right after the ceremony and posted it on Twitter. Adding a comment of “so excited to make my debut as Mrs. John Molner,” it’s easy to see the love between the two as they’re wrapped up close. She’s smiling wide and he’s staring down at her with pure love. They’re both glowing without snazzy filters and selfie angles.
And unlike WE TV's hit reality series, Katie wasn't the Bridezilla haunting Katherine Heigel in 27 Dresses. "I call John 'Groomzilla!'" Continuing, the beaming bride-to-be said, "We're a very modern couple.";
The television host didn't have a lot of time to plan the wedding after getting in engaged in September. Recently, Couric has wrapped up her talk show Katie, produced and released the documentary Fed Up, celebrated Carrie's high school graduation, and started to transition into a Yahoo News Global Anchor.
That's a lot plus planning a wedding.
Who wouldn't say yes to a little help from a willing groom? "I tried on a number of dresses and I was so busy, I had a crazy spring." She also hoped the 51-year-old bridegroom seeing the dress "isn't bad luck."
After her first husband, John Paul "Jay" Monahan, passed away from colon cancer in 1998, Couric's advocated for colon cancer awareness. Hopefully, the 57-year-old has cancelled out all bad luck.
The wedding was performed in her backyard with the fragrance of peonies and gardenias floating through the air. She purchased the home in 2011 before meeting Molner in April 2012 through a mutual friend introduction. The introduction and sparks eventually lead to a romance where Molner popped the question last Labor Day in the Hamptons.
Since the blushing bride’s taking a weekend off of social media, no one knows what to expect when she returns, or where the honeymoon will be.
It’s a safe bet to say the bride is wrapped up in love and happiness. Just where every bride should be.
