Cameron Diaz recently dissed the interviewer Kyle Sandilands upon some of his inappropriate questions regarding Drew Barrymore and Benji Madden.
41-year-old Cameron Diaz and her Sex Tape costar Jason Segel were called into the radio show on Monday, July 21. During second half of the interview, the show co-host Jackie O mentioned that Giselle Eisenberg, who played the role of Diaz and Segel's daughter in Sex Tape, reminded her "a little bit" of Barrymore's character in 1982's E.T. (The Extra-Terrestrial).
"Aw, yeah!" Diaz said. "She does, now that you mention it. And she's as bright and lively as Drew is, as well. She's a sweet little girl."
One of Kyle’s mistakes was asking a question regarding Drew Barrymore and her drug addiction which lay in the past.
"Let's hope she misses out on the Drew Barrymore drug years, because those were a great thing to watch, but not so good to be in, I'd imagine," Sandilands quipped.
Cameron Diaz first remained silent after Kyle's comment. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger," Jackie O asked Diaz to break up her silence. But Diaz was still stuck on Sandilands' comment at Barrymore's drug phase.
At this Diaz got pretty peeved and told Kyle that she was sure that Kyle had never been through rehab or any alcoholic bouts. And then she congratulated him on his being so square and straight.
Diaz said, "I'm sure, Kyle, you've never been through a drug phase, have you? Or alcoholism or anything like that? Pretty clean; always did it right? Congratulations."
Then as if all that uncomfortable talk about Drew’s drug addiction was not enough salt in the wounds of her best friend, Kyle asked Diaz about Benji who is on Australian Idol and is Cameron’s supposed boyfriend.
Kyle added insult to injury by mentioning Cameron’s boyfriend Benji Madden. He said, "Hang on a second, but I'm friends with Benji [Madden]."
The problem is that Cameron and Benji are very secretive regarding their relationship. Kyle ought to take a hint from this that he better not get too personal with good old Cameron Diaz.
There was an awkward pause and then Cameron and Segel who were being interviewed regarding their movie Sex Tape decided to call it a day and hung up.
"We're having to go now," Diaz said. "Sorry, they're wrapping us up."
It was pretty embarrassing and Jackie O admits that somewhere in the interview things went pretty SNAFU (situation normal absolutely fouled up).
She reprimanded Kyle afterwards by saying that he should never have brought up the subjects of Drew or Benji since Cameron was pretty possessive when it came to her girlfriends or boyfriends for that matter.
"Well, that started very well and ended poorly, I think. Good one, Kyle. You ruined that interview. Sorry to be blunt. You brought up Drew Barrymore, her best friend's drug addiction in the past ... She's her best friend. And then you brought up Benji. We all know how protective Cameron is about her private life," Jackie O said after Diaz's exit.
But Kyle was unrepentant and said that maybe Cameron and Segal ought to have taken some help from the wide world of advertising to boost the popularity rating of their movie Sex Tape which had invited some pathetic reviews from the critics.
Sandilands said, "Maybe they should've just bought ads if they wanted to sell the movie."
He also spoke of how being provocative and digging deep for information was the very purpose of an interview.
