The Artist Talks About How Exhausting The Industry Can Be At Times.

Colbie Caillat is one of many celebrities who has become tired of seeing themselves photo shopped in virtually every picture they appear in on social media outlets.  So, she decided to take matters into her own hands by creating a video in which she takes off all her makeup and shows her true self to the public.

“The inspiration came from personal experience of being in the music industry and feeling like I need to always look polished for people to like me. It was frightening at first. Before I was like ‘Cool, this is awesome, I’m excited to do it.’ And then when I got there and I was just in front of the bright lights and HD camera, I was looking at everyone watching the monitor and of course I’m just thinking, Okay, they’re seeing that I have really light eyebrows and they’re probably looking at the mole on my forehead that I should be covering up,” Caillat said.

At the start of her new music video, Caillat and other women appear on video with full makeup, and as the song progresses they start to shed off the gloss they were dolled up with at the beginning.  She takes off her hair extensions, fake lashes, and wipes off her makeup to show her natural look to the audience.

“I hoped it would get attention and I hoped it would affect women, and people. I mean I’m even getting grown men telling me that they love this song and this video makes them cry,” Caillat said in an interview with KPIX 5.

She went on to speak about how the industry can be exhausting for artists and other celebrities to present the image of being sexy to the public.

“The inspiration came from personal experience of being in the music industry and feeling like I need to always look polished for people to like me,” she said.

Caillat went on to talk about how her new video was meant to show her true self by not going on a diet or trying to work out prior to shooting the video.

“It was frightening at first. Before I was like ‘Cool, this is awesome, I’m excited to do it.’ And then when I got there and I was just in front of the bright lights and HD camera, I was looking at everyone watching the monitor and of course I’m just thinking, Okay, they’re seeing that I have really light eyebrows and they’re probably looking at the mole on my forehead that I should be covering up.”
