George Clooney’s fiancé, Amal Alamuddin commented on the situation in Gaza. She is truly shocked by the civilian deaths on both sides.
Amal Alamuddin, fiancé of George Clooney, was originally quite flabbergasted by the atrocities taking place in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinians.

So much so that she was willing to sit in as a member of a panel of investigators who would be looking into the war crimes. The trio of the probe team included her as the main divulger of the real facts from the war-torn and troubled region.
The UN’s Geneva-based Human Rights Council announced on Monday that "she would serve on a three-member commission of inquiry looking into possible violations of the rules of war during the Israeli offensive against Hamas."
However, the latest news has it that Amal will not be heading the posse. Apparently, she has denied the role due to her busy schedule.
Stan Rosenfield, Hollywood rep of George Clooney, issued a statement on Alamuddin’s behalf just hours later of UN announcement.
“I am horrified by the situation in the occupied Gaza Strip, particularly the civilian casualties that have been caused, and strongly believe that there should be an independent investigation and accountability for crimes that have been committed,” said the statement.
But it was Amal herself who insisted on a war crimes commission in the first place. She later on regretted her non-entry in the investigative team but did say that due to eight projects which were pending in her busy life she would be unable to head it.
“I was contacted by the UN about this for the first time this morning. I am honoured to have received the offer, but given existing commitments – including eight ongoing cases – unfortunately could not accept this role. I wish my colleagues who will serve on the commission courage and strength in their endeavours,” the statement said.
She praised the rest of the two members and wished them Godspeed on their mission. Amals designation on the team was made by Gabon’s ambassador. But the plan failed in the end.
The other two members of the commission were Doudou Diene and William Schabas. Amal is basically a human rights lawyer and international law expert. And she is an avid supporter of Julian Assange of WikiLeaks.
Her man whom she is to wed, George Clooney, is an actor par excellence and a diehard liberal and human rights activist too. As for Amal, she is a British Lebanese who hails from a Druze family.
While Hollywood spoke out vociferously in favor of the Arab Spring, the same hypocritical actors and actresses not to mention directors are silent on the present situation in Gaza.
Exceptional people who dared to speak up such as Rihanna and Penelope Cruz were treated by Tinsel Town as pariahs and thus stopped their denouncement of Israel.
It is a sad commentary on the double standards of the United States which applies one set of standards to the Israelis and another to the Palestinians.
