She is a very private person.
Michael Douglas’ first wife, Diandra, has no interest in trading her privacy for fame. “I don’t believe in showing off. I’ve never sold photos or kept money from anything and I’ve always given everything away to charity,” the 56-year-old told Spanish newspaper El Mundo (via the Daily Mail) from her villa in Majorca. “I’m proud to be able to say that I’ve never turned my private life into show business. Too much public exposure affects children.”
Diadra says rumors that Michael’s current wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, tried to buy out her share of the Spanish home are false.
“It’s not true,” she explained. “Sometimes people say things without the slightest proof. Why would someone who doesn’t speak Spanish or the local Majorcan language or knows nothing about this culture want a house here? She doesn’t even come here much.”
Diandra and Michael split in 2000 after 23 years of marriage. Their reported $45 million divorce settlement became one of the largest in Hollywood history. In 2010, they engaged in a new legal battle over potential earnings from Douglas’ film “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” because the original, “Wall Street,” was shot during the time of their marriage. But a judge later dismissed the case reports Page Six.
Michael went on to marry Zeta-Jones in 2000.
Douglas and Zeta-Jones were happy for years but now they are in the midst of problems. It makes you wonder if fame is too much to hold a marriage together. Even happy Hollywood couples seem to crumble under the pressure of fame eventually. It is a hard life to live with another famous person. Always in the spot light and your personal life out in the open for the world to see it can take its toll on even the happiest Hollywood couples. Although many relationships work in the limelight many fall apart with the fame. It is an unfortunate part of being so famous. We wish them the best and hope they can make it.
