UFC President Dana White recently commented on the rumors that had been going on for quite some time now about the deal with Gina Carano (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC). According to him, the deal with Gina was very eminent since the start but nothing as such has been confirmed and we would need to wait for another couple of days since apparently the final answer will be given by the first week of September. While talking to MMAjunkie about the scenarios, White commented that “It’s complicated, but I think it’s close.”
After Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 48 event in Macau, White talked to a lot of reporters and was quite hopeful about the deal with Gina Carano and seemed positive and confident that he would be able to talk Gina into this and bring the onetime Strikeforce star in for a fight with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC). Only a week ago, Rousey commented that even though Carana had a five year layoff at her hands, she was still in a position to provide.
She further explained that “There are very few women that have had one-punch knockout power. There are other girls that they overwhelm the other person. They get TKOs and stuff like that. But Gina has one-punch knockout power, and that’s the kind of person that I have to be the most cautious of. That’s the style that’s the worst for me, and ever since the beginning, I’ve been positive that Gina is the worst style matchup for me.”
