Mo’ne Davis had a telephone call made to her by Geno Auriemma which has landed him in trouble. He has been accused of using recruitment tactics.
The AAC has pointed a finger at him for using recruiting measures with Mo’ne who is such a young and gullible star. As a Little League prodigy, Mo’ne sure knows how to play the game with gusto and panache.
But the fact that she is at a young and impressionable age when she may be influenced by any Tom, Dick and Harry to change her mind at the drop of a hat means that Auriemma was cold and calculating in his otherwise warm felicitations.
Davis belongs to the Taney Dragons of Philly Land. And the girl has even bigger plans including the playing of basketball later on in in her career.
Auriemma meanwhile has sworn that he only contacted the small wonder on the suggestion of a friend. Basketball was the key issue that the two discussed.
Auriemma said that it was just a harmless call and nothing else. As far as recruitment policies are concerned, he had no such things in his mind.
All he did was talk to the youngster for a total time span of two minutes. Auriemma contends that he could not have even completely congratulated her in that specifically short time span.
Then why was he being persecuted by the sports authorities? Auriemma says that it’s a paranoid and dog-eat-dog world we are living in and there is no such thing as taking events at face value.
The media likes to drag you in the mud and make mountains out of molehills. Auriemma may be right after all, since he is basically a gentleman and probably never meant to make that call in the first place.
The fact that we are living in a complex society, where even an adult stopping on his path to pat a kid on the head could face charges of child abuse, means that nowadays one ought to mind one’s own business.
