Apple is expected to show off the iWatch tomorrow, but not launching it until early 2015. This is could kill the iWatch.

Apple will host an event tomorrow that is expected to reveal the iPhone 6 and also some wearable device aka iWatch. There will be a live video stream from the Apple iPhone 6 event starting at 9am PDT. While it is certain that Apple will unveil the iPhone 6 and also start selling it likely a week after the announcement, the iWatch is less clear.

A couple weeks ago it seemed based on the supply chain that the iWatch will not be going on sale this year, which would also mean that Apple will not announce it. Now it looks like that Apple will indeed announce a wearable product. The most concrete evidence for that is that Apple invited fashion bloggers to the event tomorrow. Unless these journalists are supposed to write about new funky iPhone cases, they are there to report about a fashionable wearable device.

Since there is no evidence that Apple partners are producing an iWatch right now and there is also no leak for that matter, the iWatch will not go on sale this year. With Apple unveiling the iWatch several months ahead of the sales launch it gives competitors like Samsung the blueprint on how to make a "usable" smartwatch.

Samsung could be quick enough to adjust their Gear watch line to match the Apple iWatch functionality ahead of the Apple iWatch sales launch.

On top of giving competitors an edge, missing the crucial holiday shopping season is another negative factor for the iWatch. If Apple is not ready with the iWatch, I think it is better for them to not show it. Sure, there is the argument that developers need a lead time to make apps for the iWatch, but two months should be enough time. To give them at least 3-4 months is just too much time that competitors can use to catch up and beat Apple to the punch in early 2015.
