She knew she wasn’t the type of person who gives up on things and that is when she decided to fight the breast cancer. Joan wants to learn everything there is about breast cancer so that she could help out other people with the disease.
She knew the first thing to do was to go public with the news. Joan Lunden made the news public in the ABC morning show to her friend Robin Roberts who is a cancer survivor.
And Joan left the studio with some valuable information from Robin. The first thing Robin told Joan was that when you wait for your hair to fall out, the whole experience is very excruciating.
Robin told her that it would be better if you just shave it. After just one week of chemo therapy, the mother of seven children shaved off her beautiful blonde locks.
Joan told a reporter that the hair was bound to fall out so why wait. Joan wears a wig now to fit in. When the People magazine asked her to be on the cover of their October Issue, she decided to ditch the wig and show the world her bald head.
Lunden said that losing her hair makes her feel like a different person. She claimed that it affected the way she looked at herself. She also said that it makes you look less feminine, desirable and pretty.
Joan said the whole experience for girls is not an easy one because girls are used to have long and beautiful hair. But at the end she knew what to do and what was going to happen eventually.
