Her 10-year-old daughter was in on the surprise.
On the September 22nd show of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' Courtney Cox sat down with the talk show host to recall how her fiance Johnny McDaid proposed to her back in June. The proposal took place at a dinner party Jen was hosting for Courteney's 10 year-old daughter, Coco.

McDaid first informed Coco about the news by telling her that he wanted to marry her mom, and asked her for permission to do so before hand. "He gave her a little diamond ring and got on his knee," Cox said. "And she said, 'Great! I'm going to camp tomorrow. Let's do it right now!"
The pair then began to plan out how and when he would propose to Cox. They decided that the best time would be on Coco's 10th birthday party. Then, after everything was set in motion a countdown from three would be the cue to do the proposal. Coco however almost jumped the gun serveral times during the night.
"They made a plan to count down from three, and when they get to one, he was going to get on his knee and say, 'Will you marry me?' and she was going to say, 'Will you marry him?' " Cox says. "They planned it out. They found the perfect tree with three branches that led to one trunk. It was just beautiful."
"We were at the bar having a drink, and she said, 'Three!' And Johnny's like, 'No, not now!' " Cox recalled with a laugh.
The proposal worked out, and Cox said yes to her now fiance of the Snow Patrol. Cox, who is age 50 talked about the age difference between herself and her 38 year-old beau.
"I thought, 'Oh, this is going to be so embarrassing,' " she said. "Here I am, the older woman. I know about rock 'n' roll, you know. Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll … all these hot girls with short skirts looking beautiful. And I'm going to be like Grandma."
