HTC announces Desire 820s

The phone is going to feature 64-bit, 1.7GHz MTK CPU Under The Hood

Almost a month ago we heard though some Chinese Social Networks that HTC was working on producing a different Desire 820 variant which would be called the Desire 820s. The rumors going around this phone said that it would come with a different processor than the original model which is equipped with the Snapdragon 615 SoC. After all this time of suspicion, HTC has finally officially announced the handset through its Weibo account and most of the phone’s hardware components have been revealed too.

Let us observe what changes have been adjusted into this new model as compared to the original Desire model. We are already aware that the Desire 820 packs a 64-bit Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 SoC boasting a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a second quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU running at 1.0 GHz. But this new version of the Desire is going to use another 64-bit octa-core SoC, boasting a frequency of 1.7 GHz per core. The specs of the CPU have not been revealed by HTC as yet but we are expecting it to be MediaTek’s MT6752 which is an 8-core CPU with 64-bit architecture and LTE capabilities. It was revealed back in February this year. Apart from this, the processor packs 8 Cortex-A53 cores and is accompanied by a Mali-T760 graphics chip.

Keeping aside this major difference in the SoC, we don’t seem to find any other new features being added to the device. From what HTC has revealed earlier on about the device, we can say that it sports the same 13 MP camera like its predecessor along with an 8 MP front shooter. We are also expected to see the HTC proprietary features like the BoomSound speaker setup and the same 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage.
