The second season of ‘True Detective’ is based on 8 episodes, which are now in production in the state of California. The season is basically about three police officers and a career criminal, who must chalk out a conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
The network has confirmed it that the lead female role will be played by Rachel McAdams. Plus Kelly Reilly and Friday Night Light’s Taylor Kitsch will be seen in supporting roles.
The 38 year old Irish actor Colin Farrell will be seen as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose loyalties are torn between his officers in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.
On the other hand Vince Vaughn is all set to play the role of Frank Seymon. Frank Seymon is a career criminal who is danger of losing his empire due to a death of his business partner, when he moves into a legitimate enterprise.
Rachel McAdams will be seen as Ani Bezzerides, who is a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office detective and her unshakeable ethics puts her at odds with the system she serves. Kitsch is on the other hand playing as Paul Woodrugh.
Woodrugh is basically a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the CHP and is running from a very tough past. Kelly Reilly is Jordan who is Frank’s wife and a former D-list actor and is a full time partner in his enterprises.
Nic Pizzolatto is writing this season of ‘True Detective’ and will be directed by a number of people which include Justin Lin. In a recent interview with ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, writer Nic Pizzolatto explained that a move to multiple directors for this season is to move at a faster production pace than anything else. Nic Pizzolatto not only writes every episode but is also actively involved with the casting of the series.
The first season of ‘True Detective’ was not able to gain the fame intended. Even at the Emmy’s despite some encouraging response from the critics ‘True Detective’ was nowhere to be seen and AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad’ was the night’s winner.
However Pizzolatto has somehow managed expectations ahead of the show’s second season. HBO’s programming president Michael Lombardo has stated many times that this time the scripts are much more exciting than those for the previous season. Production for season 2 is set to begin later this fall.
Kelly Reilly is with ICM Partners and Troika, whereas Kitsch has co-starred in a HBO serial before ‘The Normal Heart’ and is with CAA and Untitled. Rachel McAdams is with WME, Magnolia Entertainment and Hirsch Wallerstein has previously starred alongside Reilly in Sherlock Holmes. It seems that the new additions may make ‘True Detective’ much more exciting this time.
