LG plans to take on Microsoft's Surface Pro by launching a New Hybrid Tablet

LG is thinking of launching a new hybrid tablet with a detachable keyboard like Microsoft's Surface Pro 3.

As we all know LG has been dissatisfied over its previous attempts at a hybrid range and so is now planning to launch a new hybrid. The hybrid that LG has under consideration is none other than a detachable keyboard hybrid that resembles the Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3.

This plan has been undertaken and LG is working on this which will function as a laptop with the keyboard attached and a tablet without. Well this idea is basically Microsoft’s, so let’s see whether LG is able to pull consumers towards their new device.

The Surface Pro 3 is one of those devices of Microsoft that is compared to Apple’s MacBook Air. The Surface Pro 3 has Windows 8.1 Pro and is very light weight at just 1.76 lbs. it has a Solid State Drive and comes in options of 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

A 12 inch screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 makes it all the much better. It also comes with Intel’s fourth generation Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7. It also has a battery life of up to 9 hours and a 5mp front camera and sensors such as Ambient light sensor.

According to LG insiders, LG is considering a touchpad system on the keyboard just like the Surface Pro 3. Moreover insiders also reveal that LG’s new device will be powered by Intel’s fourth generation core processor and will also pack a Solid State Drive for portability and better battery life. If not more than the Surface Pro 3 than at least just like it.

February 2013, was when LG had introduced its Windows 8.1 powered Tab Book. The device was an 11.6 inch hybrid PC which could also be used as a laptop and tablet. Tab Book also had a slide out QWERTY keyboard which was under the touchscreen of the device.

Once again in July, this South Korean technology giant introduced the new generation of the Tab Book. This time the Windows 8.1 operating system was replaced by Android 4.2. However LG made a huge blunder as the device did not allow for Android upgrades. This made many potential customers unhappy and it was seen that LG was just making half-hearted attempts to get in the competitive tablet market.

An LG Electronics spokesperson explained that LG was currently not happy with the sales of its tablet range which was lower than smartphone sales. He admitted that the sales of the Tab Book were also not very encouraging. Plus it is still unclear when this new LG device will hit the markets.

However what has to be kept in mind by LG is that if it is launching something like the Microsoft’s Surface Pro it needs to be much better than it. LG should work on the design and much importantly the technical specifications. Now whether LG can regain its lost ground in the tablet market or not is still to be determined.
