Within minutes of it going up for pre-order, Sony’s limited edition 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 had sold out.

For Sony’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the company announced availability of a special limited edition PS4. The announcement was made at an event in Las Vegas and soon after it was announced that the gaming console was available on the site for pre order, the PS4 got sold out within minutes.

This limited edition PS4 was available in retro-gray, similar to the original console and it came with a similarly colored gamepad and camera. The entire package was available for sale at for $499.99. This seemed like the perfect way to celebrate the company’s anniversary. However, there was a slight problem with this amazing offer.

There were only 12,300 of these special units which were to be sold all around the world and this is quite limited. The number seems far too less for a world-over offer. Considering that there are just a little over 12000 units, this limited edition PS4 was certainly a collector’s edition but unfortunately only a few would have been able to get their hands on it. Some people have already seen this opportunity and the special edition PS4 is already bidding at over $15,000 on eBay. The units got sold out pretty quickly and so the ones who got the chance of getting it at the right time were pretty lucky.

Well, this doesn’t call for complete disappointment and we will keep hoping that Sony is going to roll out such a PS4 in the future as well, probably as part of its non-limited edition.
