Every year movies make millions of dollars with theatrical releases in US and then worldwide releases. These figures are the deciding figures to determine the success of the movie. After that, the movie companies release their original DVDs and Blu-ray versions to keep the business safe.

It all seems so safe and legit but there’s a catch. Over the years where greater than ever revenues for movies had turned up, there’s a darker side to the movie watcher.
The online streaming and download has become an increasingly huge trend. One of the major perks of downloading the movies is that they are free. People can download and watch the movies at home without paying a single dime for a theater ticket. The only bill they might be paying must be their internet bills which could be nothing compared to money they could be buying.
Expicio tallied the most downloaded movies of 2014 and the list comprised of commercial successes as well as action movies. On top of the list was Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill.
Leo might not have won the Oscar but the Wolf definitely beat all the other movies on the most downloaded movie of 2014. The movie was downloaded for over 30 million times.
It was closely followed by the Disney’s animated Oscar winner, Frozen. It tied with Alfonso Cuarón’s space movie, Gravity with 30 millions download each from torrent sources. The list went on to include Warner Bros.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug with 27.6 million downloads and Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World with 25.7 million downloads on torrent. Other action movies on the list included Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Transformers: Age of Extinction.
Jennifer Lawrence was also popular this year as two of her movies being on the list including American Hustle and Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The two surprises on the list have to be Robocop and Guardians of the Galaxy. GOTG, despite being a blockbuster this year commercially didn’t have enough downloads in its pocket to be considered for the list.
Maybe the reason could be its late release. When we say Robocop, we don’t mean the latest remake in 2014. People actually downloaded the original Peter Weller starring Robocop which actually made it to the top 5 of the list.
Despite the negative publicity, The Interview managed to became the most rapidly downloaded movie within a few days of its release. Despite being illegal, downloading trends are increasing day by day and after The Interview’s online release, it might start getting reviewed to count the success of the movie.
