Both use the Canon XL interchangeable lens system, three 1/3-inch, 1.67 MP CCD image sensors and DIGIC DVII HD image processing. The cameras also feature a six-pin IEEE 1394 terminal for high-speed connection to external hardware.
The H1S also offers a HD-SDI output with embedded audio and time code for raw, uncompressed 1.485 Gbps signal for live production environments. The Canon XL H1S HD camcorder will be available in June for $8999 and the XL H1A will be available mid-July for $5999.
