Super Bowl XLIX ads have reached a record $4.5 million per spot.

Bloomberg's Danielle Burger (via The Boston Globe) confirmed this in her Jan. 7 update.  To be more precise, multiple spots cost $4.4 million while single spots are $4.5 million.

NBC Universal executive vice president of marketing and sales Seth Winter said 95 percent of the advertising spots are already taken, per Burger. The aforementioned prices are the highest ever for a Super Bowl game.

The Super Bowl is the most-watched sporting event in the United States. Thousands of coporations and buisness entities are vying for commercial spots in order to promote their products and services. FOX Sports reported in Super Bowl XLVIII's aftermath that 112.2 million viewers tuned in to last year's big game, per Burger.

In other news, Fractured Prune Doughnuts will open a branch in Glendale, Az.'s Westgate Entertainment District on Jan. 12. The opening comes three weeks before Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, per The Arizona Republic's Jennifer McClellan.  Mark and Karen Prygocki are the store's franchisees.

McClellan says the first 100 customers who arrive for the store's 6 a.m. opening on Monday will receive assorted giveaways, including a one-year supply of doughnuts. The Phoenix Suns' Gorilla mascot and the Suns Dancers will be on hand for the grand opening celebration on Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. PT.

The Prygockis also plan to put up another branch at Cityscape on Jan. 22. McClellan stresses this location is also at the hub of Super Bowl-related activities, so a deluge of customers is going to be expected.

Mark Prygocki told The Arizona Republic on Wednesday how excited he is. He said,"Last time the Super Bowl was here at Westgate, they ran out of food. We're setting up temporary storage facilities for food. I can't stress how excited I am about Arizona and what it's going to attract these kinds of events.

He also adds,"We went back East and fell in love with the product. There's not an unhappy person in the doughnut shop."

The Prygockis also have branches in Chandler, Az. and US Airways Center, the home of the NBA's Phoenix Suns and WNBA's Phoenix Mercury. They plan to open a fifth branch near Arizona State University in Tempe next month, per McClellan.

McClellan goes into more detail about the Fractured Prune Doughnuts brand:

"Visitors from the East Coast will recognize the Fractured Prune brand, which opened in 1976 in Ocean Park, Md., and is named after athlete Prunella Shriek, nicknamed Fractured Prunella.

"Fried-to-order doughnuts are dipped in the customer's choice of 19 glazes and 14 toppings. Cookies and cream (vanilla glaze and cookie-crumb topping), Carnival (honey glaze with rainbow sprinkles), Strawberry Shortcake (berry glaze with graham crackers and powdered sugar) and S'Mores (mashmallow glaze, graham crackers and mini-chocolate chips) are among the specialty combinations."
