On Jimmy Kimmel Live, when asked about the new additions to the cast Diesel called Nathalie Emmanuel as great and then gave a little insight into the role of Kurt Russell. According to Diesel the role of Kurt Russell may even follow them into the film Fast 8.

Diesel explained how he always thinks before time about the next Fast movie and Kurt Russell was actually hired to be made a part of the Fast 8 cast. Diesel revealed the character of Kurt Russell is meant to be more involved in the plot of Fast 8, which takes place in New York.

Diesel did not give more details but we can be safe in our prediction of Russell’s character surviving at the end of Furious 7. Jimmy and Diesel further went on to discuss how Furious 7 is a bit sad due to the presence of Paul Walker seen throughout the film.
