Valery Spiridonov is set to be World's first full Head Transplant Patient

30-year-old computer scientist was born with Werdnig-Hoffman has been revealed by controversial surgeon Dr Sergio Canavero as first human to undergo a full head transplant.

Imagine watching a Sci-fi B-movie in which an alien robot is stitching a human head on a new body and then you realize it could happen for real. 30-year-old Russian Valery Spiridonov has been revealed by controversial Italian surgeon Dr Sergio Canavero to be first human to undergo a full Head Transplant.

Valery Spiridonov is a lifelong sufferer of the rare genetic Werdnig-Hoffman muscle wasting disease. According to the Daily Mail he says: "My decision is final and I do not plan to change my mind."

Dr Canavero says the operation could take place as early as 2016. He calls the procedure HEAVEN - an acronym that stands for head anastomosis venture; anastomosis is surgically connecting two parts). As far fetched as the acronym is the procedure say experts.

According to a CNN report, Dr Canavero got funding for the procedure and actually already has a waiting list of patients. He is now looking for a high-end medical center to perform the transplant that has never been done before. He is trying to find a facility in the United States. If there are no takers he will try China, but that will push the surgery into 2017.

The CNN report cites Arthur Caplan, Ph.D., director of medical ethics at NYU Langone Medical Center: "it's nothing more than a big PR stunt," and calls Canavero "nuts."
