The cause of his death is still a mystery.
Silicon Valley is mourning the sudden death of Dave Goldberg, the CEO of the popular online survey company, SurveyMonkey. He was 47. His brother, Robert Goldberg, shared the sad news in a post on Facebook, saying that Dave suddenly died on Friday night. The cause of his death is still unknown.
“It’s with incredible shock and sadness that I’m letting our friends and family know that my amazing brother, Dave Goldberg, beloved husband of Sheryl Sandberg, father of two wonderful children, and son of Paula Goldberg, passed away suddenly last night,” Robert Goldberg wrote in a Facebook post.
Apart from transforming SurveyMonkey into a billion dollar company, Goldberg also founded the pioneering music site Launch Media, which was acquired by Yahoo in 2001. He then joined Yahoo after the acquisition, leading Yahoo Music. During this time, he started dating Sheryl Sandberg, who was then working at Google. Sheryl Sandberg is now the chief operating officer of Facebook.
Goldberg is survived by his wife, Sheryl Sandberg, and their two children. Last year, Goldberg led SurveyMonkey into a $250 million round of funding. He also extended the company’s reach by venturing into the world of enterprise big data through a new product called Benchmarks. In spite of his accomplishments, Dave remained humble. SurveyMonkey has confirmed his passing.

“Dave’s genius, courage and leadership were overshadowed only by his compassion, friendship and heart,” SurveyMonkey said in a statement. “His greatest love was for his family. Our sympathy goes out to them and to all who were touched by this extraordinary man. We are all heartbroken.”
