The X-Files is coming back in January 2016

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles in the new six-episode miniseries

Earlier this year, we learned that The X-Files is coming back to the television but now we know exactly when we will able to see one of our favorite science fiction series of all time. Fox has made the announcement regarding X-Files on Monday when it released its full schedule for the 2016 fall.

The six-episode mini-series of The X-Files will air on Sunday, January 24, right after the NFC championship game. Then, it will be switched back to its normal time slot of 8 p.m. every Monday, according to The Verge.

The X-Files series, which revolves around the investigation of paranormal or supernatural cases conducted by two FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, was ended in May 2002 and it took 13 long years for X-Files to make a comeback on TV.

Taking about the return of The X-Files, Chairmen of Fox TV Group Dana Walden and Gary Newman said.

“The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

The series originally began airing on September 1993 and went on to complete nine seasons with 202 episodes. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson played the lead characters in the series and they will reprise their roles in the new season as well. The filming will begin in the mid of 2015.

Fox also revealed the list of new shows, the renewed ones and also that have been canceled now. Five new are coming to the Fox which are Minority Report, Grandfathered, The Grinder, Scream Queens and Rosewood and have renewed Gotham, Empire, Bones and Sleepy Hollow. American Idol will be axed after its fifteenth season. The Following, Backstrom, Mindy Project, Mulaney, Red Band Society and Utopia are also among the canceled shows. The network has also ordered Lucifer, The Frankenstein Code and The Guide to Surviving Life for the next season.
