Tumblr has launched "Post It Forward," a new campaign that promotes positivity and support in the online community, especially within groups that are underrepresented. The issues suggested relate to the mental and emotional health among users while also allowing for self expression. The program hopes to take the stigma away from mental illness.
Those who wish to participate can use the PostItForward.Tumblr.com page and the tag #PostItForward. These areas will serve as hubs for community building, support, and healing for those in need. Through these platforms, and also on their own pages, users can speak to their personal experiences, offer positive messages of encouragement, and raise awareness of organizations that have helped them throughout their journeys.
"Post It Forward" will mix together words and videos that will take on issues that plague the mental and emotional health of users, including bullying, self-harm, depression, and sexual assault. It will also shine a light on the ways online connection and community can provide support, while still remaining honest and genuine. Tumblr will also continue to change the way it interacts with users who are having problems with their mental or emotional health.
To kick off the campaign, Vice President Joe Biden, Brittany Snow, Pete Wentz, Jordin Sparks, Elizabeth Banks, Wendy Williams, First Lady of NYC Chirlane McCray and more have joined "Post It Forward" by creating videos to help inspire the community and jump-start the conversation. Tumblr will showcase some benefits to the anonymity and sense of community the internet can provide:
"We've seen how conversations on Tumblr grow into communities of support, and we want our users to have access to the kind of supportive environment that gets built through interpersonal connections," said Jeff D'Onofrio, President and COO of Tumblr. "'Post It Forward' will help foster those communities by showing people that they're not alone, and we hope that sharing experiences, resources, and words of encouragement will be one way that we can positively overcome these issues together."
Users of the program will also be encouraged to take a GIF selfie -- which will appear on the blog and tag -- using a new, special version of Tumblr's native desktop camera tool. In addition, Tumblr has also tapped a few of its top user designers -- Laurene Boglio, Brian Butler, Thoka Maer, Jonathan Reyes, and Mr. Phil -- to make the "Post It Forward" concept come to life with products that will be sold on the Tumblr merchandise store, with proceeds going to charity.

The campaign is to continue through the summer, with no official end date mentioned. It appears as if Tumblr hopes that the campaign will become something permanent.
