Although the news is not confirmed rumors have been swirling around indicating Asa will be replacing Andrew Garfield in a reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. According to the Deadline sources, after months of negotiations the Marvel Studio and Asa have entered into serious talks about signing him on as Spider-Man.
The rumors first started circulating of Asa’s involvement when the Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige announced he wants the next Spider-Man film to focus on the school days of Spidey, while the current films of the Amazing Spider-Man show Andrew Garfield out of school as Spidey.
The 18 years old Asa Butterfield has previously been known for his roles in films such as Martin Scorsese's film ‘Hugo’ and as the character of Bruno in film ‘The Boy in Stripped Pyjamas’.
Asa is right now the number one choice for a teenage Spider-Man and may star in the next installment. However other reports suggest five others young actors are also being considered for the role, so Asa may be the number one choice right now but he may not definitely star as Spidey.
The Spider-Man franchise was previously the property of Sony Pictures Studio but then they entered a right sharing partnership with Marvel Studios. The partnership will allow the character of Spider-Man to appear in other Marvel Universe films and it is widely believed the first appearance by Spider-Man will occur in the next Captain America: Civil War installment.
