Swatch to debut its Smart Watch with remote-payment functions

Nick Hayek, the Chief Executive, spilled the beans on upcoming smartwatch from Swatch with remote-payment functions

One of the biggest players in the watch industry, Swatch, has announced its intentions of making a presence in the world of smartwatches. Speaking at the shareholder meeting, Nick Hayek, the Chief Executive, spilled the beans on its upcoming smartwatch. Presumably the smartwatch will be internet enabled and will allow for remote payment functions. Availability wise, he said that the smartwatch will launch in Switzerland alongside ‘one big country’ If we shed light on some past interview with Nick Hayek, he also said that the smartwatch shall support NFC and would not require charging.

Previous interviews also indicate towards the fact that the smartwatch will be compatible with Windows Phone and Android devices only, leaving IOS devices out of the mix.With the smartwatch industry taking the world by storm and not looking to settle in any time soon, it was evident that there would be a clash of the titans. It has come to the point that Swatch Group, the world’s largest watch making group identifies the growing of smartwatch industry a threat for its own industry and has made Apple watch and Android wear a competition for itself.

Smartwatches still have a long way to go from here and it seems that Swatch could make a difference to the smartwatch industry through that long heritage of producing quality phones. It could provide a unique mix of looks and functionality which might give it an edge over the currently established smartwatch manufacturers.
