Updated Xbox One controllers will feature a headphone jack

Microsoft will announce a refreshed Xbox One controller with a 3.5mm headphone port at E3

Microsoft will be announcing the launch a refreshed Xbox one controller that will also feature a 3.5 mm headphone port in the upcoming E3 event next month. This shouldn’t come in as a surprise because, despite the Xbox one controller receiving positive reviews regarding it’s ergonomics and exceptionally pleasing button layout, customers did still complain about the lack of a standard headphone jack.

The Xbox Support page spilled the beans on the details of the upcoming Xbox controller. They mentioned that the headphone jack will only be available on controllers that will be released after June 2015. The 3.5 mm headphone jack seems to be the only major difference between the upcoming and the current controller model. The headphone jack will be positioned on the bottom of the controller. Previously, for owners of Xbox one, it was a despair trying to connect their standard headsets, and the only option left for them was to purchase a separate stereo headset.

The adapter will also feature handy features like the presence of physical buttons to help you adjust the in-game chat volumes and option to mute the microphone. After this decision by Microsoft, the only feature that the PS4 controller had over the Xbox one controller has been put to rest. While considering whether the decision to buy a new controller just for the sake of a headphone jack is a good choice or not, the positive part is that Microsoft still appears to be listening to its customers complaints. Whether that results in a benefit for users in the end is a subjective decision.
