The 45-year old singer will replace Christina Aguilera who is setting out of the competition for the third time. Stefani will join Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams, all of whom were involved in season eight as well.
“I‘m coming back and am so excited!” Stefani said in a statement. “It’s so inspiring to be around such incredible talent and music. I’m looking forward to working again with Adam, Blake and Pharrell. I love those guys.”
Carson Daly will host the upcoming season like he did in all the previous seasons of The Voice. “With such an astounding group of coaches at the peak of their musical ingenuity and Carson returning as our host, we are thrilled for what season nine will bring,” said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC. “The expertise and camaraderie of this panel will provide an immeasurable experience for the artists and must-see entertainment for all who are watching."
This will be Stefani’s second stint as the judge of The Voice. She appeared on the show in season 7 as well which started on September 22, 2014 and ended on December 16, 2014.
Adam Levine, who is a part of “The Voice” since its commencement in 2011, considers the show his “second family. “I can’t believe we’re already on the ninth season. It’s become a second family for me and I’m always excited to come back to it.”
Blake Sheldon is the most successful coach of the competition so far. Four of the past eight winners belonged to his team and he is looking forward for another winning season for his team. “Adam, Gwen, Pharrell and I had a blast together in season 7. I’m pretty damn excited about another winning season for the Team Blake.”
If someone from Stefani’s team wins the completion this year, she will become the first female mentor to do so on The Voice. Christina Aguilera, Shakira and Gwen herself are all winless so far with Aguilera coming close to it in 2013 when Jacquie Lee from her team was the runner-up of the season five.
The Voice season nine will begin in September this year on NBC.
