With lots of invasions, some victories and losses and the death and demise of characters that no one expected, the season 5 of Games of Thrones came to an end
With the fiftieth episode of the TV’s great phenomenon, Game of Thrones came to an end this Sunday night. Despite earning mixed reviews from fans and critics alike regarding the tempo of the season 5, the creators and directors definitely worked towards building a great finale.
Titled Mother Mercy, the episode featured the taking of King’s Landing by religious zealots, the Sparrows. The first course of action for them was to punish the Queen Mother Cersei Lannister who repents and confesses to her crime while kneeling in front of the High Sparrow begging that she wants to be clean again and she should be shown Mother’s mercy.
She confesses to having committed adultery but having no children from her incestuous relationship. The High Sparrow has Cersei stripped naked and walked around the streets in humiliation. She is allowed to rejoin her son Tommen until her trial.
All the while her brother Jaime return to King’s Landing with their dead daughter Myrcella who died of poisoning. She was poisoned by Ellaria Sand who poisons her lips while kissing her goodbye as they sailing from Dorne to King’s Landing with her fiance Trystane Martell.
Meanwhile in northern Westeros, wannabe king Stannis Baratheon stubbornly continues to march on House Bolton at Winterfell, even though his wife Selyse had just committed suicide. Stannis believes in sacrificing his daughter Shireen’s in a barbaric ritual honoring the Lord of Light. They are attacked by Ramsay Bolton and Stannis is put to his end by Brienne of Tarth avenging the death of Renly Baratheon.

Inside the gates of Winterfell, Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy escaped Ramsay Bolton’s shackles by jumping off the castle wall into the snow. Meanwhile Arya Stark is punished by blindness for disobeying and avenging the death of her swordfighting tutor, Syrio Forel.

Outside the city of Meereen, Queen Daenerys Targaryen narrowly fled a rebellion by the Sons of the Harpy. Dany flew away on the back of her largest dragon, Drogon, but he’s wounded and unable to return home. She sees a Dothraki tribe heading her way but their alliances remain undisclosed.
Castle Black, Night’s Watch Lord Commander Jon Snow; the champion of all fans, destined to be great met his end bleeding in the snow as he was betrayed and murdered by his own. Held a traitor for letting the feared wildlings to cross through the Wall as they fled advancing White Walkers and their supernatural army of reanimated corpses. He was murdered for “The Watch” as his second in command Alliser Thorne says.
People are mostly shocked at Jon Snows death. They have taken to social media to express their mourning of their favorite character on the show and the terrible death that he died at the hands of his own people.
