Jennifer Lawrence being paid more than male co-star in the new Sony space romance.
Chris Pratt would be quite happy with this new Sony movie as his fee has jumped from $10 million to $12 million. However on the other hand Jennifer Lawrence will be getting a staggering $20 million against 30 percent of the profit after the movie breaks even. These two hot stars are teaming up for a new movie by Sony that has been set in outer space.
The chairman of Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman is going in prep reduction on Passengers as it is a very big budget romantic sci-fi drama which will be starring Hollywood’s hottest stars. The movie will be directed by none other than Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum who had directed The Imitation Game.
Well Chris Pratt should be quite thankful to the Jurassic World and its success that has landed him in this movie’s role with his fee jumping to $12 million from $10 million. The Jurassic World broke box-office records with a $524.1 million global opening.
Jennifer Lawrence on the other hand is an Oscar winner and is considered to be a top star these days is getting an exceptional $20 million for her role in Passengers.
Passengers is said to begin shooting in September and so Sony has been under pressure to act. Sources familiar with the movie stated that Rothman was much tensed about whether to green light the movie or put it in turnaround or even to place the movie with Jeff Robinov’s nascent Studio8 which is partly owned by Sony.
When Tom Rothman had taken over as chairman of Sony Pictures in place of Amy Pascal who had stepped down in late February, the ‘Passengers’ was awaiting his green light. In June Rothman had even asked the director Tyldum to cut the budget of the movie to $90 million but was met with stiff resistance.
Rothman was also concerned about the actual star power of Lawrence and Pratt and so took some advice from Robinov. After a meeting in June between Tyldum and Robinov, Robinov had immediately offered to take on the project.
Rothman had even told the filmmakers that they could take the movie elsewhere if they wanted to and when the filmmakers had selected the Studio 8 option he refused the filmmakers from doing so.
According to THR sources, Rothman has even secured financing partners Village Roadshow and LStar to cover as much as 75 percent of the movie budget.
Sources also explained that Rothman was finding himself in a lose-lose scenario as he was afraid of setting a pay precedent that might haunt him in his new role and he possibly couldn’t pass on a project with two of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

Before Sony took up the Passengers it bounced from place to place. At one time it was with Weinstein Co. which was starring Reese Witherspoon and Keanu Reeves. Then recently the ‘Passengers’ was with Warner Bros. even and here the budget was capped at around $65 million.
