Chong, who is quite famous for his fondness of marijuana, is using this controlled substance as a treatment for his rectal cancer.
“I am using cannabis like crazy now, more so than ever before,” the 77-year old Tommy Chong said. “I’m in treatment now. I’ve been – just the case either way, either I get healed or don’t. But either way, I’m going to make sure I get a little edge off or put up.”
Chong announced the news on Twitter in this way.
I have good news and bad news. First the bad news, the cancer came back and it's a real pain in the butt.— Tommy Chong (@tommychong) June 17, 2015
The good news is I now have to use more marijuana to treat the cancer.— Tommy Chong (@tommychong) June 17, 2015
This is not the first time when Chong is battling with cancer and treating it with marijuana. Back in 2012, the comedian was diagnosed with prostate cancer and used his favorite plant to relieve the stage-one. He had to ingest hemp oil alongside it so he “won’t be woozy all day.”
“(Legalizing marijuana) means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested.” Chong told CNN in that interview.
Use of marijuana to treat some medical conditions is legal, according to American Cancer Society. It can ease off the symptoms of nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy. The drug also aids in relieving pain from many types of cancer.
It is still unclear whether Chong has undergone chemotherapy or taking any medicine to treat his cancer. However, he told magazine that he has found solace and comfort Joel S. Goldsmith’s book, ‘Spiritual Power of Truth.’ “It’s what kept my head up. So that’s my book.”
Tommy Chong is a longtime vocal advocate of decriminalizing marijuana for both medical and recreational purposes and most of his work is also based on this concept. His movies and comedy acts which he performs alongside his partner Cheech Marin are mostly marijuana-themed.
