After a 22-year hiatus, Bruce Campbell is returning for the role of Ash Williams in the upcoming series Ash vs. Evil Dead and here is the first exclusive look at his groovy character from the series, set to air on Starz this fall.

In November 2014, the Evil Dead franchise announced to bring a 10-episode series on television with Bruce Campbell reprising the famous character of chainsaw-handed monster hunter from the original film.

The series takes place 30 years after where the film was left off. Ash spend all those years quietly yet in the terror of Evil Dead. He has to face demons again when the Deadite plague rises and threatens to destroy all the mankind. In the Evil Dead TV series, Ash will be joined by new companions: Amanda Fisher played by Jill Marie Jones, Bablo Simon Bolivor, Kelly Maxwell and Ruby.

“Ash is no finer, noble or saner of a character when we last saw him,” Sam Raimi, the creator and the executive producer of the series said while revealing the details about Ash vs. Evil Dead few months ago. “If anything, he’s digressed. He’s sort of sunk down to all of our lowest instincts. And it’s from that low point, I think that a hero will have to be born. Greatness has been thrust upon him.”

Bruce Campbell hinted that the series will be different from the film. “You actually have to structure everything differently. You have to create a much larger world because the demands of the audience are bigger. You have to have multiple stories, angles and tangents.”

The series is expected to be a nice blend of comedic and hard edged intense horror scenes, designed to frighten the audience. Sam Raimi is the director of the first episode of the series which is written by his brother Ivan Raimi. Sam Raimi is also working in the production capacity besides Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell himself. Shooting is currently taking place in New Zealand.

“The Evil Dead” was released in 1981 followed by the sequels “Evil Dead II” in 1987 and Army of Darkness in 1992. The film follows Ash Williams who alongside his friends had to stay in a cabin in the woods where unknowingly release demons target them one by one. Ash is the only survivor who continues to take on evil forces in the rest of the film and the sequels as well.
