Megabots Giant Robot will be at Comic-con in San Diego

The Megabots founders are the top geeks in the country now. What better place for them to be than Comic-con in San Diego.

Megabots founders Gui Cavalcanti and Matt Oehrlein are the new most famous geeks in America. The challenge to Japan to engage in fight of giant robots has gone viral. Now that Japans's giant robot maker Suidobashi Heavy Industries has accepted the story made headlines around the world.

The fight beteween Megabots Mark II and Kuratas will take place in about a year. The details of the fight have to be still hashed out. The next stop for the giant Megabots Mark II robot is though Comic-con in San Diego this weekend.

The Megabots guys are now one of the biggest stars at the Comic-Con 2015 kicking off tomorrow July 9. Megabots shared a photo of them loading the Mark II on a truck.

You're damn right she's OVERSIZE. Locked, loaded, and ready to wreak havoc at Comic-Con International. See you in San Diego!Huge thanks to the Wrecks - BattleBot team for helping us pack up today!Posted by MegaBots on Tuesday, July 7, 2015

The original mission of Megabots is to create a sports league for giant piloted robots fighting in arena combat. The robot battle between America and Japan could be trigger point of that mission becoming reality. A lot will depend on how exciting the robot battle will be. It needs to be an exciting thing to watch - and not just for geeks. If the fight is going to great entertainment, giant robot battles could become as big as wrestling one day.

The Comic-con convention is celebrating 45 year anniversary this year. Comic-Con International: San Diego began in 1970 when a group of comics, movie, and science fiction fan including the late Shel Dorf, Ken Krueger, and Richard Alf came together to put on the first comic book convention in southern California.

Comic-Con has become the focal point for the world of comics conventions. The event continues to offer the complete convention experience: a giant Exhibit Hall (topping over 460,000 square feet in its current incarnation); a massive programming schedule (close to 700 separate events in 2014), featuring comics and all aspects of the popular arts, including hands-on workshops and educational and academic programming such as the Comics Arts Conference; anime and film screenings (including a separate film festival); games; the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, the “Oscars” of the comics industry; a Masquerade costume competition with prizes and trophies; an Autograph Area; an Art Show; and Portfolio Reviews, bringing together aspiring artists with major companies.

The full Comic-con 2015 schedule can be found here. The highlights include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice panel, NASA talking about Mars Mission in relation to the movie The Martian and Quentin Tarantino wil present The Hateful Eight.
