The Finland based company Jolla will be separating its hardware and software division soon to focus on individual products.
The move to split into two companies by Jolla was announced so Jolla could better focus on its product the Sailfish OS. The new companies will be formed in order to handle the licensing and development of the device business of the firm.
The news was released through a press release in which Jolla promised it will be concentrating on their mobile business and the mobile OS Sailfish. The new entity of Jolla will be devised especially so it could establish the devices subsidiary of Jolla, which will mainly work on the developments and improvements in the mobile business. The name and further details about the new Jolla Company will be announced after the summer of 2015.
The board Chairman of Jolla Antti Saarnio, will become the new CEO of Jolla and take charge of the units, while the previous CEO Tomi Pienimaki has been appointed with a new position outside of Jolla and will be stepping down from his position in August. However the head for the mobile division of Jolla has still not be chosen and will officially be announced in autumn.
Antti Saarnio said, “Every young company has to find its clear focus at some time, and for Jolla that time is now. We have huge opportunities in the Sailfish OS licensing business, and I am very proud and excited to take responsibility of steering the Jolla ship to a new commercial phase. After three years of intensive Sailfish OS research & development we are now moving full speed to new bigger waters, which requires full focus on software from the team.”
"We have already proven that there is demand for unlike Jolla devices in the market and we continue to see good opportunities for it. We have now decided to continue the Jolla devices business under a new company, focusing on security enhanced devices.”
The new power changes have come after Jolla has been working painstakingly towards finishing the new tablet which will be released with the Sailfish OS. The new tablet seems to be good according to Jolla and the only reason the shipments have been slowed is due to hardware supplies. However the hardware issue is expected to be solved very soon and then the new tablet by Jolla will be shipped to distributors with the Sailfish OS.
