BlackBerry To Make Android Secure

BlackBerry has possibly found a way out of its crisis. BlackBerry has been rumored to make an Android phone and now there is proof and more.

Early June reports appeared that BlackBerry works on an Android smartphone. Now there is real evidence that this is indeed the case. BlackBerry has been spotted (Android Police) registering the domains and Why the company did not choose to hid the registration information is not clear.Update: Google and BlackBerry officially partnered on deploying Android in the enterprise secure with BES12. This collaboration could be the starting point for BlackBerry to adopt Android on its next generation devices as well.

Last year BlackBerry CEO John Chen dismissed Android as secure enough for enterprise use. This criticism might have triggered an idea inside BlackBerry to come up with a hardened Android version on a BlackBerry device aimed at enterprise users.

The registered domain names are an obvious indicator that BlackBerry is trying to top Samsung and other Android phone makers in terms of security, a vital feature for business users. This could be a viable direction for BlackBerry to find some success again. At this point the company has shrunk so much that they do not need to extreme success. A smaller scale niche market would suffice.

John Chen just said in an interview with CBC this week that BlackBerry is not for sale, debunking again the rumor of a Microsoft take over. "I don't have any intention to sell BlackBerry," said John Chen in an interview on CBC's The Exchange with Amanda Lang. "Not until the BlackBerry shareholder has good value reflecting truly what we have."

Microsoft has just announced a major layoff in the mobile phone business unit, which is another nail in the coffin of that rumor.

BlackBerry is apparently confident that they can still turn things around. I'm actually tempted to buy BlackBerry stock. The BBRY stock trades at $7.81 with a market cap of 4.13 Billion. This close to the lowest it has been in the past years.
