Moviegoers at AMC Livonia 20 Multiplex received a huge surprise on Sunday when they saw two of the big stars from the film “Southpaw”, Jake Gyllenhaal and Eminem at the preview screening in Detroit.

The visit was not scheduled and according to Detroit Free Press, both Eminem and Gyllenhaal wanted to make a surprise visit at the advance screening of their upcoming boxing-themed film “Southpaw”.

In the loud applause and cheering, both the stars explained the crowd what it meant for them to be a part of the movie.

“From the minutes I saw the script, I felt like this movie had the potential to be something special,” Eminem, who produced the music of the film, told the crowd. “Jake did an incredible job. He smashed it. I’m super excited to be a part of it.”

Jake Gyllenhaal, who is playing a boxer in the “Southpaw”, complimented Eminem on his music scoring. “The training montage is insane because of his music. It’s an honor to have him even be a little part of the movie, but the fact he gave so much to it, we all gave our hearts to it. It’s an honor to be even next to him.”

“Southpaw” is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who has films like “Training Day” and “King Arthur” to his credit while the screenplay is written by Kurt Sutter. He wrote the script keeping Eminem in mind for the lead role of boxer Billy Hope, which is now played by Jake Gyllenhaal in the film.

“He’ll play a world champion boxer who really hits a hard bottom and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter. At it core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy.” Sutter said in an interview years ago.

Eminem turned down the offer since he was focusing on his music career. But he ended up being the soundtrack producer of the film. “Southpaw” includes singles “Phenomenal” and “Kings Never Die” by Eminem.

The movie is set to release on July 24 in United States.
