Distinguished astronauts from three different countries have arrived at the International Space Station. They docked at its portal today.
It was a six hour journey that ended in the trio of astronauts from Russia, the US and Japan docking at the ISS. Oleg Kononenko, Kjell Lindgren and Kimiya Yui took off from the Russian cosmodrome and after 360 minutes they were ready to board the orbiting space station.

This travel route had been postponed since a rocket launch ended in failure in April. The space flights to the ISS with astronauts aboard them are only possible today with Soviet technology though.
As for the United States, it gave up on Space Shuttle missions four years back. This current trip occured on Thursday and was a success. The astronauts from the three nations had originally planned to undergo the whole procedure in May, reported BBC.
But things came up and the plans were delayed till today that is. The Soyuz cargo rocket had disintegrated in space leading to an obvious re-haul of the entire operation. Nobody wanted any glitches while there were people aboard the flight into space.
One of the astronauts aboard the spacecraft spoke of how it was a sad event when something wrong happened in the journeys into outer space. It just goes to show how precarious and rickety the arrangements were for travel to regions outside the atmosphere of the planet.
In fact, any journey was a source of hazardous conditions which were avoided at all costs. The Yankee and the Japanese astronaut were making their maiden voyages. Kimiya Yui even packed along some sushi as a traditional dish from his native Japan to share with his other two companions, according to NBC News.
This threesome has joined three others (two Russians and an American) who are already on board the ISS.
The ISS has been subject to debris rushing in from the depths of space. And it has also lost several rockets in the process. The list of accidents is too long to go into. It is proof that this is risky business indeed.
It was a two month delay after which this present trio reached the ISS aboard the Soyuz. Had the preparations not been complete and fine-tuned down to the last details, this mission could have been aborted too due to mistakes and errors that showed up at the eleventh hour.

Thus space travel is no laughing matter. It requires a lot of input and you have to literally hone the process down to a razor blade if you want to see the mission a success in the end.
