It is a hard fact of life that most of the dashing males in our society pile on the pounds after fatherhood. That spare tire your dad carries is thus caused by more than just middle age spread.
Now scientific evidence exists regarding the fat men accumulate around their middle after fatherhood. Not only is the weight gain very real but the overall BMI shoots up too. Thus daddy’s little girl may cause a surge of protective caring hormones that lead to lipogenesis.

An experiment that followed the lives of some 10,000 men over a 20 year period exposed this stark truth. Those who did not become fathers actually underwent significant weight loss to the surprise of the researchers.
The study is seminal and is of prime significance. It shows that fatherhood is not solely a blissful experience. The domestication involved probably has an effect on testosterone levels.
While marriage obviously leads to weight gain, this piece of news regarding fatherhood being a fat magnet is quite shocking. And the fat gain causes further problems including coronary disease, diabetic issues and possible growth of tumors.
The weight problems were of different types for those dads who lived with their children than those who lived apart. Those who co-existed experienced greater weight gain than those who gave each other some much-needed space.
But the strange thing was that those who had no kids actually lost weight. The wild and single state therefore sure has its benefits despite the fact that there might be no peace of mind in it. The theory goes something like this: lifestyle changes after fatherhood are responsible for the weight gain and fat deposition.
The added responsibility of caring and providing for the kids means that a father becomes a sort of banker provided by Nature. Fathers typically have little to no time to attend to their own needs such as following a good diet and engaging in vigorous exercise. And so they end up in a lousy state and develop a puppy pooch.
Once family becomes the center of interest, you can kiss all of your personal freedoms goodbye. And although the change in BMI for fathers is less than the sort that leads to full-fledged obesity, it is enough to be a cause for concern.
New dads will have to shape up, if not for themselves, at least for their children’s sake. They ought to set a healthy example for their little tykes. Otherwise the children might end up as fat slobs when they grow up.
