According to a new report from German business magazine Manager Magazin, Apple was interested in using BMW’s i3 carbon fiber car body; for its rumored mystery electric car project codenamed as Project Titan.
Apple was initially interested in using the car’s body only. i3 has a carbon fiber shell and is a small hatchback. It is rumored that the CEO Tim Cook started meeting the Apple officials during the visit to BMW’s factory in Leipzig.
However, the negotiations between both were broken due to unannounced reason. It is important to note that the news of Apple dealing with BMW is not new. Similar report surfaced in March when a German Automotive Magazine Auto Motor und Sport claimed that both companies; Apple and BMW are working on a deal in which the body of i3 will be converted for the Apple Electric Car.
It’s unclear whether negotiations between Apple and BMW are still going. The German magazine reports that negotiations were broken off last fall, but the two sides agreed to keep talking and to check in with each other’s views from time to time.
On the other side, Apple has been gathering media attention time and again by recruiting employees from famous Automobile companies like Ford, GM and Tesla. Even, earlier this week Apple announced publicly that it has hired former Senior Vice President of the Chrysler Group and the global head of operations leading product service and quality, Doug Betts.
