Apple is thrilled with the number of Apple Music subscribers.
The rumored Apple Music subscriber number we reported about end of July turned on to be quite accurate. Apple's Eddy Cue said in an interview with USA Today that the Apple Music service has 11 million subscriber. The rumored number was 10 million.
"We're thrilled with the numbers so far," says Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet software and services. Mr. Cue also revealed that of that sum 2 million have selected the family plan at $14.99 a month for up to 6 people.
All Apple Music subscribers are still on the free three month trial. The streaming service launched on June 30. The true subscriber number will be available in early October when the free trial expires for those who signed up at launch.
In a rare moment of sharing, Eddy Cue also revealed that the App Store had a record July with transactions valued at $1.7 billion. "With particular momentum in China," says Eddy Cue.
Apple's stock can use some good news. Apple (AAPL:NASDAQ) dropped from a $132 high in mid-July to $115.40 at market close yesterday. investors are most concerned about iPhone sales. Apple lost its leading position in China to Xiaomi and Huawei last quarter. A new report shows though renewed growth in Europe for the iPhone.
All eyes are therefore on the iPhone 6S launch expected for next month.
