The English Premier club announced Salah's loan on ChelseaFC.com on Aug. 6:
"Chelsea Football Club has agreed (to) terms with AS Roma for the season-long loan of Mohamed Salah.
"The winger will spend the 2015/16 campaign on loan at the Stadio Olimpico and the agreement includes an option to purchase at any point during the season."
ESPN FC confirmed AS Roma can offer Salah a permanent deal during the season.
Salah told Roma TV (via ASRoma.it) he is excited about the opportunity:
"I think Roma are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I'm happy to be in this team. I think everybody here has ambition and everybody wants to win the title. Everybody will give their best to make the fans happy."
Salah told ASRoma.it he wants to win this season's Serie A title for the fans. He also said one of the reasons why he chose AS Roma is its inclusion in the Champions League.
Salah will wear No. 11 for the Giallorossi. He has worn a series of numbers during his career.
He first wore No. 22 for FC Basel. He wore No. 15 and then No. 17 when he played for Chelsea. He switched to No. 74 when he was on loan to Fiorentina. He wanted to wear the number as a tribute to the Port Said disaster victims, per ASRoma.it.
Salah will be the fourth player in AS Roma Club history to wear No. 11. His predecessors were Luciano Alghisi, Miguel Angel Panto and Emerson, per ASRoma.it.
Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle is not happy with Salah's AS Roma contract situation.
ESPN FC's Ben Gladwell says Della Valle criticized AS Roma for "practically parading Salah." This was three days before Chelsea announced his loan to AS Roma.
Della Valle spoke about the Salah situation with Italian newspaper La Repubblica:
"It wasn't a nice thing to see Salah arrive in Rome. He's not been presented officially, even if he effectively has been. Maybe Roma could have avoided all of this.
"Solicitors are working on the issue -- ours, his and Chelsea's. We're trying to ensure a contract is respected, and then we'll see. We don't like arguing with anybody and we haven't said either 'yes' or 'no' to Salah joining Roma, but it's a very delicate subject and I can't say too much about it.
"They may be convinced about it in other cities, but all we say is that we've got a contract in our hands. If they're happy, let them be happy. The player left here convinced by his agent and I'm the first to be disappointed by the way this whole issue has evolved.
"When Salah arrived here, he was practically unkown. But I've got to think about the future now and open up a new cycle."
Salah had a contract with Fiorentina for the upcoming Serie A season. He made it clear he does not want to come back, per ESPN FC.
He is the first Egyptian player to suit up for Chelsea. He played in 19 games and scored two goals, per ESPN FC.
During Salah's time at Fiorentina, he amassed nine goals in 26 matches, per ESPN FC.
AS Roma is happy to have the 23-year-old winger. The team dubbed him "the best Egyptian player in the world right now," per ASRoma.it (via ESPN FC).
