UEFA has revealed the three finalists for the 2014/15 Best Player In Europe award. These are Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi and Suarez play for FC Barcelona while Ronaldo plays for Real Madrid.
AS.com's Santi Gimenez asked Enrique about his opinion on this. Enrique said Neymar, not Ronaldo, should complete the trifecta.
"Ask those who voted," Enrique told AS.com. "I think the podium should be Messi, Neymar and Suarez."
Neymar placed fifth in the voting with 23 points, per UEFA.com.
Journalists from UEFA's 54 member associations voted for their top five players. Each time a player gets ranked first, he gets five points. A second-ranked player gets four points and so on, per UEFA's official website.
The 10 players garnering the most points advance to the second vote, per UEFA.com.
UEFA wil reveal the 2014/15 Best Player In Europe on Aug. 27. That is the date of the group stage draw in Monaco.
Neymar fell ill with mumps on Aug. 9. The team ruled him out for the next two weeks. FCBarcelona.com confirmed this.
Neymar and Dani Alves will be playing in Brazil's friendlies in the United States next month. Brazil's manager Dunga confirmed their selections on FCBarcelona.com.
Former FC Barcelona defender Edmilson will debut as Brazil's assistant coach, per FCBarcelona.com.
Gimenez also asked Enrique about FC Barcelona Forward Pedro. He is also known as "Peter."
Speculation has it he will move to Manchester United, per ESPN FC.
Enrique said he is uncertain about Pedro's status with FC Barcelona, per Gimenez:
"He's been the same as he's been throughout the preseason. As usual, his level of work is very high. We know his position is a special and unusual one for the time being but nothing has happened since the start of the preseason.
"Nobody knows. I do not make decisions based on the transfer market. I did not play him as a starter in Tbisili because he withdrew from training a few days before. His position is an unusual and difficult one.
"His situation is a contradiction because he wants to stay but I always want more minutes. I'll continue to use the best players I deem particularly to face each game. I'm looking forward to the end of the transfer window for everything to be decided."
Gimenez then asked Enrique if Pedro is upset about his situation. Enrique did not go into specifics.
"I've already explained this issue in the past," he said. "I will not go into more controversy. He is a player loved by everyone and you can interpret things however you want to."
